They continued with the Guthrie theme by busting into this year’s first take on “When the Roses Bloom Again,” another song from the Mermaid Avenue sessions. Last night, the band kicked things off with “Airline to Heaven,” from Mermaid Avenue Vol. Nodding to Dylan’s long history with Woody Guthrie, the band has opened every one of their AmericanaramA shows with a song from their Mermaid Avenue collections of reworked lost Guthrie lyrics. Once again, Wilco offered the evening’s most unique setlist. Their segment continued with “Circuital,” the only number they’ve played every stop this tour, “Victory Dance” and “One Big Holiday.”

The group opened with “The Dark,” a song from their debut The Tennessee Fire, and offered “It Beats 4 U,” “Gideon,” “Wordless Chorus,” “Phone Went West” and “Wonderful (The Way I Feel).” Then, Weir returned to the stage for My Morning Jacket’s first-known cover of “I Know You Rider,” a song long-associated with the Dead. My Morning Jacket played next and continued to shuffle their setlist. Weir opened the night with a short solo set consisting of “Hell in a Bucket,” Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” “Playin’ in the Band,” “Twilight Time,” the first verse of “The Other One” and “Standing on Shaky Ground.” The singer/guitarist qualified his decision to cover the evening’s headliner by saying, “This one’s by the gentleman closing the show tonight but since he hasn’t been playing it I will because it needs to be done.” So far closing act Bob Dylan has yet to interact with his tourmates onstage. The Grateful Dead guitarist has sat in with Wilco at every show on the multi-generational outing and has sat in with My Morning Jacket for the past two nights of the run. Last night, Bob Weir sat in with both My Morning Jacket and Wilco at Atlanta’s Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood on the third night of the AmericanaramA tour.
